Research Facility & Holistic Horse Center
               North Shore, Kaua'i, Hawaii

Equiloha Farm is a small organic family farm located on the North Shore of the island of Kaua'i, Hawai'i. With a strong focus on green and sustainable farming practices, we eat and promote a vegan diet and lifestyle, grow a variety of tropical fruits including our own noni, veggies and herbs, a mix of organic horse feed, and of course keep and board horses.

At Equiloha Farm, we are committed to alternative energy. Nearly all of our power needs are met by our solar and wind off-grid installations, and we are constantly striving to reduce our reliance on traditional energy sources - up next, solarizing the well-water pumping system. The horses earn their keep not just by carrying humans around, but by helping out with the noni harvest. They also do double duty as the orchard maintenance crew, trimming trees, weedwacking, and minimizing the need for mechanical mowing.

Natural Boarding - Contact us for availability and pricing.

Our Facility is specifically designed to encourage:

movement • frequent feeding • healthy hoovessocial activity • play

Our barefoot horses live "on Track" in a natural herd environment, moving all day long around an "endless" loop of more than 1/4 mile. There is no gate to pace, no corner to get caught in, no reason to stand around with nothing to do. Instead of a barn we have natural shelter-providing trees and hollows.

Living in this closely simulated natural environment encourages the optimum health and fitness of each equine body, mind, and spirit.

Nutrition

Optimum forage & fiber intake is achieved by combining limited pangola-grass pasture grazing, free-choice Timothy grass hay in slow feeders, alfalfa hay and/or cubes in the mornings, and the freedom to browse on a variety of beneficial herbs and plants. There is always something available to eat - 24 hours per day - maintaining natural gut motility and minimizing potential for colic, laminitis, or obesity.

Supplementation is kept as simple as possible with free-choice access to plain white (non-iodized) sea salt, kelp, & natural mineral blocks.

Additional supplementation is rarely necessary, and can be provided on an individual basis.

Less work and more play make for a better horse-human relationship.
